Dec 23In the past few years, the stories we hear from Christchurch have been all about one thing: the earthquakes. And for good reason – both devastating and life changing, the quakes have profoundly changed Christchurch, and will continue to affect lives for generations to come. But the team behind The Road Home want to remind everyone that there is more to Christchurch than the quakes, and tell a story instead that captures the connection to Christchurch and the glorious Canterbury landscapes.

And so they’re crowdfunding their short film! The Road Home is the story of eighteen-year-old Jonathan, an American travels to Christchurch to reconnect with his roots and find a father he never knew. The film pitch has been a hit already, winning seed funding at CHCH soup and support from everyone from Phantom Billstickers to TimeZoneOne. With a month to go and less than $300 to raise, we caught up with producer Brindi to hear all about their campaign.

    1. How are you finding the campaign so far?

Oh. My. Golly. Who knew fundraising could be so fun? And such hard work!

    Fun: Spreading the good word.

Hard work: Keeping up the momentum. Battling small tinges of doubt when one day goes by without a pledge.

Fun: Allaying that doubt when a new pledge pops up, reinforcing our sneaking suspicion that people really, really do love Canterbury as much as we do and want to see it celebrated on the (small) silver screen.

    2. What do you have planned for the rest of your campaign – anything for us to look forward to?

We’re still hoping to offer some of our pledgers a secret cipher that unlocks a passcode that opens a trapdoor to their lucky break into acting! Pledgers who put forth $250 will be invited to a top secret Christchurch location to be extras during our early January shoot.

    3. Anything you’d like to shout out to your crowd?

THANK YOU (!) to every single lovely and generous one of you who has cracked opened your wallets and shared your hard-earned dosh to help us bring this simple, optimistic, beautiful, Canterbury story to life. You’re racking up the good karma points!

And to that one pledger who put forth a whopping $1,000 — whoever you are and wherever in the world you happen to be — because of your most excellent pledge, you can now proudly wear the badge of the Associate Producer.

THANK YOU!!! We don’t have far to go now…
