Mangawhai Artists Incorporated (MAI) began in 2002 and now counts more than 150 artists as members. Their mission is to provide a positive and learning environment, along with the commensurate facilities, to enable the promotion and fostering of their members’ practice and the wider Mangawhai community’s appreciation of all forms of art. They offer a gallery space to their members and host over 20 exhibitions a year as well as learning workshops for the entire community.

Right now, due to limited space, the Exhibition Season alternates with the Learning Opportunities Season. MAI would love to host both exhibitions and workshops concurrently year round and designed an already-consented, accessible extension to their current space to serve as the workspace for classes. Now they just need the funds to build it. That’s where PledgeMe comes in! We chatted to Mangawhai Artists Incorporated Chair Mary-Anne Boyd about the project and what MAI has in store for the rest of their campaign:

Why do you think this campaign is important?

Art and creativity learning enrich everyone’s lives and is important for children’s development and we have many requests for classes for children. This community-driven project is led by an effective volunteer organisation and it will make a positive difference to community well-being.

What motivated you to reach out to your crowd?

We want  to meet community expectations and needs… crowd funding is an innovative, inclusive and realistic way to fund something we care about.

What do you have planned for the rest of the campaign – anything for us to look forward to?

Surprises, gratitude, Tavern market stall, three ways to pledge, celebration when we reach the goal!

[PledgeMe note: You should really check out the rewards for the campaign. They include colouring books, art pieces, classes and workshops, clothing, and many other very cool items and experiences.]

Anything you’d like to shout out to your crowd?

Thank you everyone! This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to radically improve a historic community space! Soon we can have art classes, workshops and learning opportunities for children and people of all ages and abilities! … it will make a positive difference in this rapidly growing community!!

There are only a few days left in the campaign and over $75,000 of the $100,000 goal pledged. Don’t miss your chance to receive one of the awesome rewards and support art in our communities!

    1. As Cliff McPherson said tonight “The Artists Gallery is a little gem in the Mangawhai Village and the addition will make it so much better … workspace for classes and workshops for children and adults year round!” Totally positive and hoping we get to $100,000 by end of the weekend!
