JoJo off to Sydney!

JoJo is a New Zealand designer who is beginning to make her mark on the  fashion world. Her designs recently featured in the i.D fashion week and in the September issue of the Italian Vogue Magazine (yes, that’s right, VOGUE). She now has the opportunity to head to Australian Graduate Fashion Week in Sydney where top designer will win $10,000 to kickstart their career. Thanks to 36 friends, family, the Southland Times, (and one complete stranger), JoJo managed to raise $2140 to help get her and her garments to Sydney. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity and we wish JoJo all the best. Here is what she had to say about Pledgeme:

What did you like about pledgeme?
Um everything! I had an opportunity to do something great of which i couldn’t afford. Without this site I have no idea how I would have got there without financially crippling myself.

How did you find the experience?
Addictive. The first few days i was checking my page all the time. One of my friends said he would do a ‘big’ pledge if i didn’t check my page for three days.. that never happened. It was quite an amazing ride and rather humbling to see such support rolling in, not only from close friends and family, but from people whom you haven’t seen or heard from for years.

    Any tips for newbies?
    Don’t be shy, contact everyone.
Facebook was really good for the first few days, then you have to go bigger. I contacted my parents and got a massive list of emails of family friends and contacts. I was quite blown away by the emails i received back congratulating me on my initiative and determination. People love to help and it’s not an email containing your bank account details.. it has fun rewards!
Let the media know what your doing. Newspapers love a good story. After an article on stuff I received a $500 pledge from a stranger. I still don’t quite believe it.

    I say crowdfunding, you say:
