Lucy rallies the Finish the Fence crowd to protect Onetahua’s Farewell Spit
HealthPost Nature Trust wasn’t just determined to build a boundary – it was about strengthening a sanctuary. Finish the Fence brought people together around the shared belief that protecting Aotearoa’s ecosystems is something we action collectively.
These are some of the little lives this crowd rallied around to protect. Every bird, every insect, every fragile ecosystem in this collage represents the taonga of Onetahua that now have a safer future because of the crowd that cared enough to act.
Seeing the fence go up has shown just how much practical work goes into this project. Every section built reflects the effort from HealthPost Nature Trust and volunteers, but it required funding to make it possible.
To everyone who backed Finish the Fence, Thank You! HealthPost Nature Trust have been committed to this kaupapa for a long time, and your support has strengthened their work in such a meaningful way.
Being able to watch this crowd come together to care for the delicate ecosystems and the small beings within them, has genuinely been so special to witness. To watch people choose to care in a tangible way, has been a reminder of how beautiful and empowering it is when we look after the places that look after us.
Here’s to more great people doing great mahi for the whenua,
Misipa
